Ask Jupiter
Ask questions about what you saved, in plain words. Jupiter finds the items, explains them, and prepares any change for you to approve.

What Ask Jupiter is
#Ask Jupiter is a conversation inside Jupiter Jots. It works on your saved library, not the open web: it finds bookmarks by what they are about, reads the notes you wrote, summarises a collection, suggests tags, and can prepare changes when you ask for them.
It is not a browser copilot. It does not read the page you are looking at, and it cannot browse sites for you. Its answers come from what you saved, plus the AI model you connect.
Ask Jupiter is included in the extension. It stays dormant until you add a key from an AI provider you choose. If you would rather work from Claude Code or another terminal agent, the agents guide shows how to connect it to the same library.
What did I save about database locks?
You saved three pieces on Postgres locking. The shortest is a practical guide to deadlocks; the other two go deeper into SELECT FOR UPDATE and retries.
- Postgres locks, explainednotion.so
- Avoiding deadlockspostgresql.org
- Retries that don’t stampedegithub.com
Proposed change · waiting for you
Move these 3 bookmarks into Databases.
Add your AI key
#Ask Jupiter uses your account with an AI provider, not one supplied by Jupiter Jots. That keeps your questions and library out of our hands, and means you choose the model and pay the provider directly (some OpenRouter models are free).
- Open Jupiter Jots and go to Settings → AI providers.
- Choose a provider: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, xAI, Meta or OpenRouter, and paste its API key.
- Set a vault password. The key is encrypted with it and kept in this browser only.
- Choose the model you want to use. You can change it later, and Refresh models fetches the provider’s current list when it adds new ones.
- Open Ask Jupiter from the sparkle in the header, or press Ctrl/Cmd + K and type a question. Ask your library on the Insights page opens it with example questions.
The first time, Jupiter Jots may ask Chrome for permission to reach that provider’s API. No request goes to a Jupiter Jots server. The key is never synced, put in a backup, or sent to us. If you forget the vault password, it cannot be recovered; reset the vault and add the key again.
- Bring your own key
- Use a key you already have with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, xAI, Meta or OpenRouter.
- Your vault
- The key is encrypted on this device with a password you choose. Unlock it when you want to ask.
- Your model
- Different models differ in quality, speed and price. The model picker shows what each provider offers.
- Effort
- On models that can think before answering, choose Low, Medium or High next to the message box. Higher effort takes longer and uses more tokens; Low is the cheapest.
- Another device
- To move your keys, make a transfer code in the vault and open it on the other device by pasting it or scanning its QR code. It stays encrypted with a passphrase on the way.
- No key, no requests
- Without a key, the panel shows setup instructions and never contacts a provider.
Questions it can answer
#Ask in the same words you would use with a person. Jupiter searches titles, addresses, page descriptions, collection names, tags and your notes, then answers with the saved items it used. You can open any of those items from the answer.
- Find something
- “What did I save about database locks?” or “Find the article about Rust ownership I noted last month.”
- Summarise
- “Summarise my Web3 collection.” or “What are the main ideas across these five links?”
- Tidy up
- “Organise my unsorted bookmarks.” or “Find duplicate bookmarks and suggest a merge.”
- Write and organise
- “Create a reading path for learning Rust.” or “Add the tag
#postgresto those three.” - Review
- “What should I clean up?” or “Which saves have I never opened?”
- Share
- “Prepare a share of these five links.” Sharing tools always wait for your approval.
Answers are grounded in the library, but a model can still be wrong. Treat a summary as a first pass, especially before deleting or merging anything.
Approve every change
#Ask Jupiter uses the same tools as the rest of Jupiter Jots, under permissions you control. When a conversation proposes a change, it is staged as a Change set: you see the before and after, then choose Apply or Discard. After applying, Undo reverses it.
Writes never happen silently. Even with a tool set to On, a write comes back as a proposal. Destructive actions ask again before they run.
For a request with several steps, such as “tag my unsorted bookmarks and file them”, Jupiter first writes a plan and marks each step as it starts, finishes or is skipped. When a step stages changes, the plan pauses for you. After you apply them, it carries on until every step is done, instead of stopping after the first.
- Off
- The tool does not exist for Ask Jupiter. It is not offered to the model.
- Ask
- The tool waits for your confirmation before it runs.
- On
- Reads can run without a prompt. Writes still wait for your review.
- Always asks
- Sharing and destructive tools cannot be set to On, so they always ask.
- Read-only
- One switch in Settings → AI tools turns every write and destructive tool off for both Ask Jupiter and outside agents.
What it can see
#Ask Jupiter can read a saved page’s title, address and description, the collection and tag names it belongs to, and your notes. It never receives the text of the page itself.
Notes you hide from AI, and password-locked notes, do not exist to it. A tool asked for one answers the same way as for an item that does not exist.
Your question and the items needed to answer it go straight from your browser to the AI provider, using your key. They do not pass through our server. That provider’s privacy policy governs what it receives. The privacy policy covers this in more detail.
Saved chats
#Each conversation is saved in this browser so you can come back to it. Open the chat history from the Ask Jupiter panel to reopen or delete a conversation. A saved chat keeps the model it started with; if that model is no longer available, choose another before continuing.
Saved chats are not shared and not synced between devices. Deleting a chat removes its transcript from this browser.
Limits and costs
#Ask Jupiter depends on an outside AI provider, so it needs an internet connection while it works. Answers may be incomplete or wrong, and the provider may charge for tokens.
It sees your notes but not the pages those notes are about. It does not sync your library, run on a schedule, or act as a general browser agent. You can turn individual tools off, use read-only mode, remove your key, or close the panel at any time.
